"The Colorado City Record was founded in 1905 by the Kindred family, who promptly sold it to the Whipkey family. F.B. and A.L. Whipkey operated the Record from 1905 until 1926, when W.W. Whipkey took over. The latter Whipkey sold it in 1948 to Pete Geller, who kept it for four years, selling it to Joe Bell in 1952. The Bell ownership lasted until Mac McKinnon took over in 1971.
